It is a simple fact that he who has a 'list' of prospects, painstakingly
harvested from the web via people 'opting' to join (i.e. NOT SPAM),
will do well with their online business. Plain and simple, the
'list' is hugely important.
Great, well that's settled then, let's increase
web site traffic and go make some money!!!!!!
Yes, but steady on.
Whilst the above statement is true, if it was that easy, we would
all be internet millionaires, right? Of course that's right, and
this is where we all come unstuck. There are so many means to
get your message out, but which ones work? Please bear in mind
that what works for me might not work for someone else, and vica
versa. However, judging from my own experience and from what I
have read about other people's experience, what I have set out
below is pretty representative of what works to increase web site
traffic.
Ezines
The best Ezine ads to use are the Solo ad's, because you get exclusivity.
In other words the people receiving that one ad are not distracted
by anyone else's ads. You have that prospects full attention. And,
if you have done your job with the headline, you stand a chance
of making a sale. Needless to say, Solo ads can be expensive, but
they can be worthwhile.
Please try to target your ad to Ezines who have a readership akin
to your target group. Research as much as you can, otherwise you
risk wasting your advertising money. Subscribe to some Ezines and
see what they are like, and ask yourself if you would read ads that
cam from them. If you like the Ezine, there is a good chance that
many other people do as well.
As with anything in life, you get what you pay for. If you pay
for 'Topline' ads (where you ad is placed near the top of the Ezine,
but with lots of other peoples ads), you will probably still get
results (as long as you have taken care with your headline and you
have targeted well), but the results are unlikely to be as good
as they are for Solo ads.
A think that Free Ezine ads are largely a waste of time, but they
can have some success if you spend a LOT of time doing it. If your
budget is limited, then it is worth a try.
Classifieds
I think think
that you can apply much of what I said about Ezines to Classifieds
in that if you pay for Top Spots, you will get better results then
if you are listed with a multitude of other ads. However, Classifieds
are not as well targeted as Ezines, because they do not operate
on the basis of opted in subscribers, so whilst your coverage may
be greater, your success may be less. I personally prefer Ezine
ads over Classifieds ads.
Search Engines
Ah, my favourite. But not because they have been the most successful.
Far from it infact, but I personally like the challenge of the Search
Engines, finding key words and optimising pages. However, please
don't base your commercial well being on them because you are going
to end up in trouble. It takes ages for your pages to be indexed
by the top engines (the only ones that are worthwhile) - although
you can pay for people to do it for you -
"1st Search Ranking" for example. But these guys are
not cheap. If you have a very specific product for a niche market
then this route could certainly be worth considering, but otherwise,
leave it for later. Unless of course, you use.....
Pay per Click
(PPC)
With PPC you have the opportunity of bringing ONLY targeted traffic
to your site, you just pay for each customer that is sent to you.
How much you pay is up to you. You research keywords that YOU think
people would type in order to try and locate someone like you, and
then you place a bid on that keyword. It could be as little as 1
penny per click. But, you must take care with your selected keywords,
otherwise you will end up with visitors that did not really want
to come = no sales!
All is not lost however, here is a link to the definitive and BEST
book by far on fighting the PPC battles.
Instant
Website Traffic
This is a worthwhile investment! It is a complete step by step
guide for everyone starting out on this road.
Safelists
Safelists aren't
everyone's cup of tea. They take a bit of work to set up, and they
take some time to maintain. But, with the right tools, they are
a source of very low cost advertising that you would be wrong to
ignore. I have used them since I started marketing online, and they
continue to produce good results for me.
If you want
the lowdown on safelists, then go to the Safelist
Toolbox, for everything you need!
FFA
Pages
I would have to say, that by and large, the FFA pages are a waste
of time. Thousands upon thousands of ads placed where people will
never see them. So why mention them? Well, there is a way that these
pages can be made to work, as part of a coherent strategy in traffic
generation. The key is to host a FFA page, not post to one.
Since the new canspam laws came into effect, you need to approach
email advertising with caution. They are still very effective, as
long as you do it right! I have found a free ebook that is very
helpful in explaining an email strategy that is successful but also
safe.
